It is also used in the production of carburetors, carbon disulfide, crystalline silicon, and non-ferrous metals. Additionally, it is utilized as a household fuel, water absorbent, and in the production of organic fertilizers and other purposes. It is a combustible substance with a solid porous structure. It is produced by the thermal decomposition (pyrolysis) of wood and is classified as a low-hazard substance.
