How we create Activated Carbon: The Magic of the Four Elements
Our production is based on simple but powerful forces of nature: Fire, Water, Air and Birch wood.
Birch wood is strong, dense, with a perfectly developed cell structure. We choose only high-quality raw materials, because it depends on what the future sorbent will be.
Fire — wood undergoes a carbonation stage, when it turns into coal at high temperature and without oxygen. This process removes volatile substances and creates a base with primary porosity.
Water and steam — the activation stage begins. Under the action of steam, at temperatures from 900C to 1200C, micro cavities and channels are formed inside the coal. Pressure and temperature cause the pores to open.
Air is important for temperature control and chemical processes so that coal gets the right properties and activity.
At the activation stage, an amazing thing happens in the pores of coal:
The pores open up like a grain of popcorn in a microwave oven — only instead of a crunchy treat, we get a powerful sorbent ready to absorb impurities and odors.
As a result, each activated carbon pellet is a whole "apartment building" of microscopic rooms ready to absorb odors, toxins and pollution.
This is how the Perm Sorbent plant Uralkhimsorb transforms the force of nature into a technological product that purifies water, air, food and helps in dozens of industries.
